Tall, Dark & Alpha: An Alpha is Protective

Thank you for hosting us today. We’re excited to talk about the alpha trait protectiveness and our stories for the boxed set Tall, Dark & Alpha as we try to figure out: what IS alpha?

An Alpha is Protective

Chivalry is not completely dead. The alpha man is protective. Whether it’s throwing down his jacket in the mud to keep her Manolo Blahniks clean or mowing down an attacker, he protects everything and everyone dear to him.

The alpha hero in Chase and Seduction: Hot Country Series, Book 1 by Randi Alexander, a contemporary romance, is a musician. When Reno Linden’s ex-boyfriend tries to steer her career in the direction that will benefit his own reputation, country western star Chase Tanner literally and figuratively steps in between them and shows Reno that her ex is only using her. (Come backstage and get your hands on country superstar Chase Tanner!)

In Tall, Dark & Apocalyptic by Sam Cheever, a paranormal romance, the alpha hero is a bounty hunter.

story snippet:

“I’d suggest you start running.” He didn’t look at the woman but her silence beat against his back like a pair of small fists. Audie resisted the urge to defend himself. Who was she to judge him anyway?

But her words astounded him. “I’m not running away and leaving you alone, Hunter.”

Audie’s gaze jerked around. She was staring at the oncoming predators, her fingers clenching at her sides. What he saw in her face was not judgment. There was just raw fear. “Damn it, woman!”

Her pretty blue gaze jerked in his direction. “I can slow them down. But we’ll both need to run.”

He was shaking his head before she even finished speaking. “I’ll slow them down and you run.”

Yeira glanced up as the air darkened with the thick bodies of the plummeting birds. “We don’t have time to argue. When I yell run, run.”

Audie lifted his knives. “I’m yelling run now and you’d better hoof it. I don’t know how long I can hold them off.”

(A grand passion in an apocalyptic world. A love beyond reason and without boundaries.)

The alpha hero in Rock My Boat by Afton Locke, a paranormal romance, is a shape shifter. Even though a prickly CEO hardly needs protecting, Rhonda brings out Simon’s protective side when he’s a man and even when he’s in blue marlin form.

story snippet:

The fish circled again and jerked, as if warning her of something. Instinctively, she took a deep gulp of air and held it. As soon as she did, the fish dove deep into the water, dragging her with it. Then it spiraled up in the air until it landed with a thud on one of the lifeboats. Luckily, the boat’s canvas cover had some give to it and the fish took most of the weight of their landing.

(Once addicted to the sea, you can’t escape its pleasures.)

Silver Tongued Devils by Dawn Montgomery, a sci-fi romance, has two alpha heroes. Raesa brings out the protective instincts in both Na’varr and Brom. Na’varr faced down the murderer of his family in order to keep her freedom. Brom’s hybrid instincts won’t allow anyone to harm the woman of his heart or the man who’d saved his life. Both would die to protect what’s theirs. (She was always one step from hell until she found redemption in their arms.)

The alpha hero in Crazy by Eve Langlais, a paranormal romance, is a vampire.

Touch Ella, and die.

Look at Ella and die.

Harm Ella and…die painfully.

(Ella hears voices and they don’t like anyone.)

In Sex With an Ex by Eve Vaughn, a contemporary romance, the alpha hero is a lawyer. Ethan Boudreaux will do anything to protect the woman he loves. (When two divorcees reunite in the bedroom, the sex is hotter than ever, but can their hearts survive the second time around?)

The alpha hero for In Her Wildest Dreams by Farrah Rochon is a CEO chocolatier. Gavin has made it his life’s mission to protect Erica from harm, both physical and emotional. Protecting her heart is his full-time job. (When the woman of his dreams asks him to create a Valentine’s Day fantasy, Gavin plans to show her just how sweet their reality could be.)

In Two Cops, a Girl and a Pair of Handcuffs by Paige Tyler, a contemporary romance, the heroes, Reed and Hayes, are both cops, so they come with their own handcuffs. The heroine, Cilla, is eager for them to make her their prisoner, but she’s also a little nervous. Reed is quick to reassure her that everything they do will be for her pleasure. (Working the late shift just got a whole lot more fun!)

Featured Story – Chase and Seduction: Hot Country Series, Book 1 by Randi Alexander

Country music superstar/actor Chase Tanner has yet to be denied anything–and he’s never wanted anything or anyone more than gorgeous screenplay writer Reno Linden. So when the film they are working on is finally finished, Chase decides to turn up the volume on seducing Reno.

Reno Linden lived a quiet, rural life until she was thrust into the Hollywood scene when her book was adapted to film. Chase Tanner is larger than life, sinfully sexy and hell-bent on getting her into bed. Skittish after a failed wedding engagement, Reno risks the plunge into Chase’s arms, and is surprised that her good girl self can keep up with bad boy Chase.

Though Chase returns to his cowboy roots often, and Reno cherishes the time spent with him on his ranch, the two find their careers pulling them in different directions. Will their attraction survive the glitz and stress of fame?

  5. Afton Locke says:

So true, Jean. There needs to be some alpha in every man.

  6. Can’t imagine loving a man who’s not an alpha. Seen a few hook-ups where the female thinks she wants to give strength to a weakling and they’ve never worked.

  7. Sam Cheever says:

Nothing creates more fun in romance fiction than the alpha male trait of protectiveness. No self-respecting heroine wants to be coddled and protected when she’s perfectly capable of taking care of herself. By the same token, she’d never respect a man who didn’t try. It makes for some very interesting interaction. LOL

  8. Elise-Maria Barton says:

    Touch Ella, and die.
    Look at Ella and die.

  10. Afton Locke says:

Protectiveness is definitely a good trait, Kelli. I protect my furry, 4-legged children too.

  11. Is there anything sexier than a man who protects his woman? I think not. Thanks for hosting us!

  12. Kelli says:

All males should be protective of their loved ones, alpha or not. Even females should be protective, especially when it comes to their children.

  13. Thank you so much for having us here today!

  14. Michelle says:

Gotta love the little stuff an alpha does from making sure your car is safe to being sure his lady’s needs are met first!
